About Opportunity Green

Established in 2021 Opportunity Green helps unlock the opportunities from tackling climate change. Climate change is terrifying. But if the global community acts now, the solutions that reduce emissions also bring enormous opportunities for economic development, improved health and increased democracy. Opportunity Green helps countries, civil society and business access those opportunities. Opportunity Green is fuelled by law, economics and science to design and influence policy and are propelled by the ambition to stop climate change.

Run by its ambitious founder, OG is now looking to expand to continue to provide the high-quality engagement and outreach on aviation and shipping. OG is looking for a Partnerships Director to build a business coalition that will influence the UK government and the European institutions on the efficient decarbonisation of aviation and shipping.

What’s the role of the Partnerships Director?

Green hydrogen and Direct Air Capture (DAC) need to be scaled rapidly if the goals of the Paris Agreement are to be met. There are many sectors which could use both technologies, but only a few which have no viable (more efficient) alternatives, such as aviation and shipping.

Working alongside a wide range of industry and policy stakeholders, you will create and coordinate a coalition of aviation and shipping companies calling on the EU Commission and the UK government for green hydrogen and DAC to be scaled up and prioritised for use in their sectors.

As the Partnerships Director, you will have the opportunity to influence domestic and international climate policy, potentially driving a significant reduction in emissions. You will be working closely with Opportunity Green’s CEO and have oversight of a Policy Officer.

The role will provide significant exposure to a range of senior stakeholders in the UK government, EU institutions, and industry – for which good communication and persuasive skills, strategic thinking and industry knowledge, are essential. You will hold frequent meetings and build relations with key policymakers and decision-makers, and will oversee the direction of the communication and advocacy strategy of this project.

OG is looking for someone who is delivery focused and a problem solver, but also a people person who is comfortable presenting and speaking to senior stakeholders. You must be an excellent communicator as collaboration with industry and policymakers is key to this role.

Experience of working in the private sector is a requirement, ideally in the aviation, shipping, hydrogen or direct air capture sectors.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree (bachelor or masters)
  • Dedication to stopping climate change
  • Track record of project/programme development in the private sector, with a preference for those with a background on aviation, shipping, hydrogen or direct air capture
  • High credibility with policy and business audiences, ideally with a good network of contacts
  • Understanding of how policy change happens and how to play an effective role by working with the private sector
  • Excellent time management, an ability to meet deadlines, logically tackle problems, set priorities and communicate on each
  • Enough discipline to deliver excellent outcomes in a timely manner while working remotely
  • Good communication skills, and comfortable with public speaking (e.g. on webinars and at conferences)
  • Ability to interact with people from around the world with kindness and respect
  • Be London-based or willing to travel to London, and Brussels, frequently

Location: Preference for London, possibility for elsewhere in UK if frequent travel to London feasible. Frequent travel to Brussels also required.

Role: Permanent (subject to funding)

Salary: £30,000 – 70,000 depending on role, plus 10% employer-contributed pension.
